Gag Rule

It's funny the way we think about kids sometimes. I guess you just think that certain things are learned, rather than being part of the base package. For example, when Ethan sees ants on the ground, he likes to get his mouth about an inch from them and yell at them at the top of his lungs. Who taught him that? I've certainly never done that, and I would suppose Beth hasn't either.
McKenzie has an obsession with eating magazines. She cannot help herself when she sees a nice magazine lying around, especially Pottery Barn; that's her favorite. (Her ears must be ringing because it's only 6am and she's yelping for milk -- this might get cut short).
So, recently, Beth and I have noticed that certain sights and smells make Ethan gag. It is hard to believe that he is truly grossed out by, considering the weird, nasty projects little boys get into. As all youngsters do, Ethan will walk into the bathroom while you're taking a poop. He likes to flush the toilet repeatedly and wash his hands, unroll the toilet paper, ask five billion questions, etc. Lately, he comes in and starts gagging like he's about to hurl. He looks around and says, "Eww. It stinks in here," as he rushes out to avoid puking.
While McKenzie's meals do not look too appetizing, they are mostly just pureed veggies or yogurt. Baby formula, on the other hand, is quite disgusting. Beth and I get a good laugh when McKenzie eats baby food peas. They are dark green, and she gets it all over her because she is constantly spitting and swatting the spoon away. Without fail, Ethan will walk by while she is eating and start dry heaving. He's not pretending... it really makes him sick to look at her covered in this green grime. He moves slowly toward the bathroom, complaining that he has to throw up. It is pretty damn funny.
I look forward to seeing what else he finds repulsive. Maybe he will avoid eggplant like his grandpa does. Or maybe he'll find olives absolutely rancid, like his father does. I think McKenzie will be pretty tolerant to everything; she doesn't seem to be bothered by much.
What? The picture? Oh... the picture of Ethan cleaning up the eggs? He wasn't bothered by those. And that wasn't his doing either... shhhhhhhh.
