On November 16th, 2005, AOL decided I needed a few more buddies on my AOL Instant Messenger Buddy List. Besides suggesting that I need more friends, they suggested I need a few robot friends—BOTS.
What am I talking about? If you use AIM, check your buddy list. There should be a group called AIM BOTS near the top of your list. In my case, I now have two more buddies… MovieFone and ShoppingBuddy. I don’t like this one bit. Who does AOL think they are? Oh yeah, they think they dominate the planet. Well, guess what? The other day someone asked me if I thought they should keep AOL or switch to our local broadband provider, and I told them they should DEFINITELY switch for several reasons. Now there are several+1 reasons to switch.
If I want more artificial intelligence (AI) friends, I’ll download Virtual Girl 2 (which I do NOT recommend).
FYI—You CAN opt-out if you don’t want them there by removing them from your Buddy List. No doubt, more will be added at some point as AOL deems necessary.
