I really was expecting this movie to be a lousy remake of the original, but I was pleasantly suprised to see that only a few of the famous lines were repeated. The theatre was packed with kids and adults when we saw it; the kids laughed at certain jokes, and the adults laughed the other ones. The storyline was more extensive and even explored the childhood of Willy Wonka. The Tim Burton touch was enjoyable and presented slightly odd and creative scenery, as expected in his films.
Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka was fantastic. Depp always puts on a great performance, and this was no letdown. I really enjoyed his humor and distaste for the five children visiting his factory.
The Oompa-Loompas were quite a ridiculous treat. I couldn’t help but miss hearing the songs from the original movie, but the new, more diverse soundtrack was satisfying.
The Golden Ticket winners were cast perfectly, capturing many qualities from the original cast, yet still offering some new personality.
To really enjoy this movie, pay attention to the humor and try to get over the fact that it is a remake of one of the best movies of your childhood.
