Last night I stepped into my local CompUSA to hopelessly look for a SCSI terminator, which I didn’t really think they would stock.
I stepped up to the tech counter to take a chance they had them or knew of a local shop that might carry them. A tall, slightly overweight black man emerged sloooooowly from the large tech dungeon in the back. At first glance, I could tell that he wasn’t human.
I asked him, “Do you carry SCSI terminators?”
Without completely focusing his eyes on to me, he responded in a rumbly, monotone playback:
“Sir, you will not find SCSI terminators here at CompUSA. CompUSA services home users. A SCSI terminator is used primarily by enterprise and corporate users. You might want to try somewhere like cables.com in order to satisfy your needs. Thank you.”
I told him I was looking for somewhere local to find the parts for this weekend and asked again if he knew somewhere in town I could find the part.
He repeated his last answer, word for word.
I knew right then that CompUSA hired a robot to work at their tech bench. And why not?
