Dear Ethan, year 0, month 4

Posted on Tue 04/18/06 in Fatherhood

Dear Ethan,

YOU SLEEP 12 HOURS STRAIGHT EVERY NIGHT!!!!!
I mean, really, I can’t image you’ll do something to impress your parents more than that! It was amazing. One night you were waking up every four hours to feed or be held. And then your mom and I were looking at each other with curious delight one morning:

“Did you feed him last night,” I asked her.

“No. Did you?”

“No… but, let’s not consider this permanent, yet. It could be just a fad.”

But, it wasn’t. You now sleep from about 7:30pm until 7:30am, with occassional exceptions… like now… I’m up at 5am on a Saturday. No big deal.

When you do wake up, you are HUNGRY. You can suck down an 8oz bottle in 5 minutes if you want to. At your last doctor’s visit, Doc told mom that she can start feeding you Stage 1 baby food. Based on her excitement level, you’d have thought he bought her a new car. I have to admit that the baby food tastes VERY good. The sweet potatoes taste like sweet potatoes and the snozberries taste like snozberries! (I know… what’s a snozberry?) The stuff tastes great; it’s just… well, a bit too creamy for my taste. But, it DEFINITELY tastes better than that formula! YUCK!

OK, now that I’ve had breakfast, we can move on.
You are a happy little baby. You smile and laugh alot. For some reason, you find having your clothes stripped off you to be incredibly humorous. Maybe you like to challenge your parents by trying to stick your entire fist in your mouth while we try to take you shirt off. It’s all part of your nightly routine. You seem indifferent about bathtime, but you LOVE the aftereffects. Your mom and I are running around saying, “It’s bathtime for all the little babies in the world.” And as you have your last meal and melt into dreamland, we whisper,” It’s sleepy time for all the little babies in the world!” We think it’s hilarous. You do too.

You had your first two pictures at the pro-shop, which was a pretty trying experience. The nice girl taking the pictures made a secret combination of noises that seemed to keep you happy long enough to take a few pictures. The third picture below is of you rolling around in your crib, having a grand old time. You’re starting to talk and love to stand up. Next month should be a fun one!

Love, Dad

Aaron & Beth: your son is a living angel! He’s so alive and makes you feel good just looking at his happy face. The pictures are great and I think it’s a wonderful idea that you’re writing to him. xoxoxo Love, Auntie Kim(the other one) :)

oh my, is he cute! I love reading these blogs. Ethan looked so cute sitting in his “Bumbo” seat (refer to last month’s entry) that I followed your lead and bought one for my little man this week. What a clever invention. He really enjoys the new view from the upright position. By the way, I think you should write these entries twice a month. I’m anxious to read about the new discoveries and adventures in Ethan’s world!! xoxo Jaime
