Kryptos Puzzle

Posted on Thu 06/09/05 in My So Called Blog

I am intrigued about a sculpture created by James Sanborn called Kryptos.

Kryptos

It has been outside the CIA headquarters since December 1990 and contains several enigmatic messages written in encrypted codes. Few have broken the first three sections, and nobody has yet cracked the final section.

I heard about this on NPR Radio this morning on my way to work and fantasized about being the one to crack it. Can you imagine being the person to solve this puzzle? It would be like young Arthur pulling the sword from the stone which made him King. Not that I want to be the king of anything… but, it would be nice to put on my resume.

Here are a couple links to some more information on the puzzle.

maybe it is a message to terrorists to act on a specific date (that is quickly approaching)... and the guy who made it is a prophet who made an agreement with God to not tell anyone… and then in the last hours, someone brilliant like my former co-star Jeff Goldblum will solve the puzzle and it will be the hex code for a super-militant-islamic-virus that will destroy all the terrorists.

You should check out the book Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson.
