If you love zombie movies, go see Land of the Dead, a.k.a. Dead Reckoning. This flick has one feature most zombie movies don’t have: a plot. It was intriguing enough to make me think the makers actually wasted a good plot on a horror movie. This film had a unique style; if I had to describe it, I’d say it was a cross between 28 Days Later and Dark City.
I was extremely impressed by the gore effects and overall production. The casting was excellent—to include Dennis Hopper, star of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, was pure genious. I recommend a theatre enviornment so the quality sound effects can be rightfully appreciated. There is a fair amount of explosions and plenty of excessive screaming.
Although there was a slight hinting towards a possible love story sub-plot, the director did not pursue it. This was a good idea because everyone knows there is no room for love in a zombie flick… unless, of course, it’s zombie love.
I found myself cheering for the zombies as they devoured the living, and I was proud of them as they learned to use firearms. Overall, I left with a huge smile on my face. The wife also enjoyed it.
Rating (out of 5): 4.5
