What else have I eaten?

Posted on Thu 12/15/05 in My So Called Blog

I eat regularly at Boston Market and have for many years. They offer a variety of home style meals, sandwiches and side items; I enjoy a nice selection. Not that I’m a picky eater or anything! In fact, despite my lingering distaste for olives, I do taste one every year just to make sure I’m not missing out on anything good.

Just recently, while talking with a fellow gym buddy, he told me a story about margarine that made me consider removing it from my diet^1^. I now usually make a conscious decision to use butter instead of margarine, in the rare cases when I actually use either. What does this have to do with Boston Market?

Well, my wife and I recently visited the restaurant for dinner. I grabbed some butter from the bin labeled BUTTER. As I sat down to butter my bread, I realized that the container read “Creamy Buttery Spread.” That’s not butter. That’s margarine. It’s not really a big deal because it’s not like I never eat margarine. I’m not that absolute. But, it DID make me think. What else have I eaten? Was the soda machine dispensing soda? Or was it really dispensing some soda-like substance chemically developed from nuclear waste.

IT’S CHEAPER AND TASTES JUST LIKE SODA!!! (But, please ignore the malformed appendages caused by consuming more than 1 cup per day.)

So…

As with people, never judge your butter by its label.

1. Through my verification of his story, I discovered web articles like this: http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/margarine.html, which make me reconsider.
