In Spanish, the word bomba means pump in English. So, I am thinking about that…
I am surprised that more takedowns do not occur in the more culturally diverse airports in the United States because of this language translation. I’d figure that in airports like Miami or Dallas, there would be more occasions where an English-speaking passenger overhears only bomba from a conversation a few Spanish-speakers are having nearby. His gut reaction is that they were talking about a bomb. He looks their way, suspiciously. They, in turn, look back at him, suspiciously. Ultimately, the English-speaker reports to authorities that he saw some suspicious men huddled together, talking about a bomb.
Why doesn’t this happen more? I would think it would. Is it because not many Spanish-speakers are talking about pumps? I just think it would happen more.
Compré una bomba del pecho la semana pasada.
